GWM Cars Review the Safety Regulations

GWM Cars Review the Safety Regulations

When looking at purchasing a new car, you might stumble upon a few models that strike your fancy. Various deals, such as GWM cars for sale, present you with a range of options that are designed to give you the best vehicle befitting of your budget.

The question is, do all automakers make sure they give you the best deal possible? Here is why GWM cars for sale is an option you should consider.

The automotive industry has to comply with several rules and regulations set out by automotive safety federations. Organisations such as the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in the US sets out and enforces certain safety standards that automakers are expected to meet.

These safety standards include having the vehicle’s chassis pass several stringent crash tests, ensuring occupants have the best possible chance of survival. Airbags and seatbelts are among the systems that needs to be included for a vehicle to pass.

The NHTSA also considers several other design aspects, from the height of the headlight to the width of the exhaust outlet. All these components ensure that each vehicle produced meets the standard health and safety requirements.

Automakers do a great deal to ensure their vehicles meet stringent rules and regulations set out by international automotive federations, and none so more than GWM. All the GWM cars review processes undergo strict investigation, assessment and analysing when produced.

No vehicle is distributed to accredited dealerships without passing the strict quality tests overseen by GWM’s production management.

However, the quality checking process does not stop with the automaker. Institutions, like the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and the European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP) provides consumer information on the safety of new cars.

Although this process is a complex and expensive undertaking for each automaker, GWM is proud of the fact that GWM cars prices remain among the most affordable in each of their respective segments.

Consumers looking at GWM cars for sale will be supported by GWM's comprehensive 5-years/100 000 km warranty and 2-years/24-hour roadside assistance. An optional 5-years/60 000 km service plan is also available.

GWM M4 Review: Beauty Meets Beast

GWM M4 Review: Beauty Meets Beast

Ever since its instruction at the 2013 Johannesburg International Motor Show, the GWM M4 1.5 has impressed with its sleek styling and rugged persona. It was truly the beautiful beast in the crossover segment. So how does the updated GWM M4 2016 measure against its predecessor?

Although beauty is measured in the moment, each GWM M4 review came to similar conclusions. The GWM M4 1.5 can again be dubbed one of the most stylish crossovers in its segment.

The beauty

The black bumper and side sills flow effortlessly from the presented silver grill detail. Rugged looks covered in an elegant tuxedo. The ‘floating roof’ effect is accentuated by the blackened pillars, creating a space for the roof racks that is both fluent and functional. Sharp edged headlights dominated the front persona with the fog lights completing the overall form.

Form flowing function continues when entering the cabin as luxurious leather and premium stitching meets an elegant piano black facia that subdues the busy world into a calming assurance of pristine quality.

Interaction with beautifully detailed design can be kept to a minimum as Bluetooth enables the driver to keep connected at all times. The multi-function steering wheel and easily reachable centre console ensure that the driver can remain focused at the job at hand, with each function at a safe distance.

The beast

The GWM M4 1.5 engine boasts an economical combined fuel cycle of 7.1 L/100 km. Impressive when considering the engine output. The stylish GWM M4 2016 is powered along by 71 kW and 135 Nm.

This power output comes in handy when you take the GWM M4 2016 onto the outskirts of town where the terrain becomes challenging. The GWM M4’s raised ride height of 183 mm is enough to keep going even when nature prefers you don’t.

The fairytale

Each GWM M4 1.5 owner can drive safe in the knowledge that they are being looked after. The GWM M4 2016 is backed by GWM's comprehensive 5-years/100 000 km warranty and 2-years/24-hour roadside assistance. An optional 5-years/60 000 km service plan is also available.

At a retail price starting from only R189 900, the GWM M4 2016 is certainly a remarkable story.

Three Reasons Why SUV Cars Are Growing in Popularity

Three Reasons Why SUV Cars Are Growing in Popularity

There appears to be a growing trend in South Africa that is seeing the rise in popularity of SUV cars, particularly small SUVs and crossovers. What exactly is it about SUVs that makes them so appealing to the South African driver?

The advantages of driving an SUV

The major benefits when making a SUV comparison with your average sedan or hatchback, is that an SUV seems to offer the modern urbanite a greater sense of comfort, safety and versatility when driving on South African roads.

To understand the advantages that a crossover or SUV for sale in South Africa has over other cars on the market, let’s take a look at each of these driving perks in more detail.

Comfort

The larger interiors of the SUV are an obvious benefit when it comes to comfort. The extra seating capacity makes these vehicles the ideal family car as not only can you accommodate more people, but you can do so without sacrificing on the modern style and look of the vehicle. These cars still look both suave and powerful on the road.

Safety

Sitting higher in the vehicle, the SUV offers greater visibility, not just for yourself, but you are also more visible to other cars on the road. Another advantage of the car sitting higher above the ground is the benefit of being able to safely drive over debris and small objects on the road, with minimal damage – a great advantage considering the condition of some urban roads in South Africa.

Versatility

The first benefit of versatility when it comes to SUVs in South Africa and perhaps the leading reason why this sort of vehicle has become so popular is the ability of the driver to not only have comfort and safety in their urban environment, but to also have the ability to take those advantages off-road, into the country and escape into more the more quiet and beautiful surroundings of nature.

The additional space offered by an SUV also allows you to convert a passenger vehicle into a useful cargo vehicle should the need arise.

Aren’t these cars more expensive and heavier on fuel?

They can be, however, there are many makes and models to choose from that are no more expensive than your average sedan or hatchback, but still offer all the attractive and rugged advantages.

The GWM M4 is arguably the most affordable stylish, sporty SUV South Africa has to offer. This compact SUV is packed with all the features needed from your ideal crossover and is certainly an option you need to consider when making your SUV comparisons.

GWM Single Cab: Bargain Parts

GWM Single Cab: Bargain Parts

GWM in South Africa built a foundation that is reputable throughout the automotive industry by providing durable and reliable single cab bakkies at an affordable price. The question on everyone’s lips however, is what makes the GWM Single Cab Steed so affordable?

We can discuss our streamlined and efficient production process, or put the focus on how we demand the best prices for our customers at base level, but the best way is to explain how we look further than just the sale.

GWM prides itself on delivering the best possible service to our clients. One of the many ways in which we do this is by providing an aftersales service that is second to none. That’s were parts pricing comes to play.

When perusing through the range of single cab bakkies for sale, one needs to consider what the cost of the service and parts will be. This is where the GWM Steed 5 Single Cab shone in its segment in the Kingsey Report of 2015.

The Kingsey Report is an annual review of the parts and service pricing of automotive brands and their products. Research is conducted across 74 vehicles featured in nine categories. In the 2015 reports, researchers found the price per basket (which is known to be total price of all parts researched) was the most affordable in the GWM Steed 5.

This, along with the affordable starting retail price of R164 900 and GWM’s comprehensive 3 year/100 00 km warranty, it’s no wonder the GWM Steed 5 Single Cab is considered among the best single cab bakkies for sale South Africa has ever seen.

The South African automotive consumer market witnessed soaring inflation in recent years, with the end consumer forced to dig a bit deeper in their pockets for what are essentially the same products. GWM in South Africa does not agree with this general industry consent and is proud to announce that our prices have remained stable over a period of 18 months. That is remarkable considering how prices increased across the market.

GWM Specs: What Your Next Bakkie Needs

GWM Specs: What Your Next Bakkie Needs

The bakkie as a utility vehicle has continuously proven itself over time. Fleet managers, farmers, delivery companies and rugby supporters will, without a moment’s hesitation, jump to defence of a bakkie.

If you are among those who want your next vehicle to be a bakkie. You’ll be busy analysing the details, like those found in the GWM Steed specs list, wondering how to make up your mind. “But which one? There are so many options.” Here are a few aspects you should consider when looking for a new bakkie.

Loading capacity

Among the many reasons why bakkies are so popular is the fact that they’re able to carry large loads. Bakkies can easily transport essentials which are too big for a standard vehicle. This makes them extremely popular. So the bakkie’s load capacity should be substantial enough for you to transport your goods or equipment hassle-free.

Tough Exterior

Along with being used as hauling mules, bakkies should also be able to venture off the beaten track. Loading the back with camping equipment, getting the family on board and driving several kilometres off-road should be no problem for a bakkie. Make sure the model you want is built for adventure. A good ground clearance with a standard skid plate means your vehicle won’t be phased by larger rocks and hills.

Comfortable interior

Being a workhorse, luxury is among the last things one would expect in a utility vehicle. However, modern bakkies do feature several luxury additions, like those found on the GWM Steed 5 specs list, which make life more comfortable. Make sure your bakkie is equipped with features that will make it a comfortable ride.

Strong engine

Being able to tow all that extra weight is a must for any bakkie. Having all the space in the world to store equipment is pointless if you can’t take it anywhere. Do research on engine specification and see for yourself if it will be able to lug around the extra luggage.

Seeing that all the vehicles from the commercial range of GWM specs are fitted with these features, it makes the task of searching a whole lot easier.

The GWM Steed 5 is commercial vehicle that is designed to make the utility of bakkies affordable for the masses. With a tough segment that features several products, GWM is aiming to become a pillar within South Africa’s bakkie segment by producing solid and reliable models that feature elite specifications and a fraction of the price.

Crossover vs SUV: How to Choose

Crossover vs SUV: How to Choose

Consumers are faced with a smorgasbord of choices in today’s automotive market. From big blue bakkies to small yellow sedans. No matter which segment you are shopping in, you will certainly be spoiled for choice. And none more so than the crossover SUV South Africa segment.

The question between crossover vs SUV has been on the mind of consumers for ages. So how do you decide which option is best for you?

There are several aspects that one should consider when doing a crossover SUV comparison between the models available on the market. Some options might be more important to you than others, so it advisable to look at the details. Here are some of them:

Size matters

Crossovers are vehicles that were initially designed for a certain purpose but, with a few adjustments, can cater to a completely different market. SUVs, or Sport Utility Vehicle, are models designed to be big from the get go. However, attention has been placed on their performance in certain scenarios during its design.

Built for outdoors

Crossovers and SUVs are bigger and live tougher lives than most cars, excluding workhorse bakkies and commercial vehicles. They are designed to take the entire family out into the middle of nowhere on a camping trip in complete comfort. Both models are able to go off-road, however crossovers are fitted with extras that make it able to venture the unbeaten track, and take the beating that goes along with it. SUVs are designed to go off-road from their concept phase.

It’s what’s on the inside that counts

While both SUV and crossover vehicles feature several creature comforts, SUVs are fitted as standard with various equipment that caters for adventurous driving. Crossovers feature added features that make it a practical off-roading machine. Skid plates and mudguards are among the additions that will stand out on crossovers.

It’s so roomy

Interior space is highly important to many consumers busy with their crossovers vs SUV comparison. Both types are extremely spacious, however SUVs tend to have an extra few litres of boot space. This is due to the fact that crossovers were designed to be smaller vehicles from the start, like a hatchback, for example.

What the wallet says

In the end, it boils down to the ultimate decider…price. Since crossovers are smaller vehicles adapted to take on tougher conditions, they tend to be more affordable than their heavier counterparts, SUVs.

What’s New On The GWM Steed 6?

What’s New On The GWM Steed 6?

As with any product, you expect there to be a step up when new products, or, in this case, models come out. But, when talking about the GWM Steed 6, you’re faced with the difficulty of surmounting the already high bar set by the spectacular GWM Steed 5. So, what does a new GWM Steed need to bring to the party if it is to take a step forward from a brilliant predecessor?

Before we can answer that question, we first need to look at the starting point, which is the GWM Steed 5 off of which the 6 was launched.

The GWM Steed 5

The Steed 5 remains a fantastic bakkie. It’s a double cab, which South Africans love, and absolutely tough as nails. But, underneath the aggressive, angular exterior design lurks a luxurious cabin that offers bucket-loads of comfort and entertainment.

With leather seats, air-conditioning, power steering, and a brilliant audio system, the Steed 5 offers abundant comfort and entertainment. Add to that the rugged design features and leading safety and security and you’ve got an awe-inspiring bakkie.

The Steed 5 is powered by a 2.2 litre petrol engine that puts out 78 kW and generates 190 Nm of torque.

What the GWM Steed 6 Adds

Because of all its features, the Steed 5 is certainly a hard act to follow. But limits are meant to be exceeded, and the Steed 6 has managed to build on its impressive predecessor.

The leather seats are now joined by a leather-wrapped steering wheel, which perfectly complements the top-notch entertainment system. This system features electrically adjustable seats, cruise control, and an audio player with Bluetooth capability.

Powering this beast forward is GWM’s widely-praised 2.0 litre direct-injected VGT engine, whose turbocharger brings its power output up to 105 kW. Complimenting this is a 6 speed transmission, ensuring that the comfort inside is not compromised by a lack of brunt.

Though mighty, the Steed 6 is not without finesse. Uncontrollable power is useless, so the electronic driving aids make sure that this monster can be kept restrained. Such restraints exist in the form of Electronic Stability Control by Bosch, ensuring that even the most treacherous roads can easily be conquered.

These are just some of the fantastic features which the Steed 6 brings to the table. For more information on this exceptional bakkie, be sure to contact GWM today!

New GWM Bakkie Prices Remain Consistent

New GWM Bakkie Prices Remain Consistent

Over the years, South African consumers faced several tough challenges concerning their transport budget. Rising fuel costs, increased taxing on products, vehicle price inflation and e-tolls made sure that each vehicle owner had to review their budgets over time.

Due to increasing costs on products such as steel and plastic, the automotive industry was forced to invest in alternative methods of cost reduction or do a basic inflation of their standard costs. Most, if not all, had to look to the latter as their initial response to rising costs.

This was the case for most automotive manufacturers except GWM. With the Steed 5 Single and Double Cab range, new GWM bakkie prices remained the same for the past 18 months. An amazing achievement considering how the market fluctuated.

An affordable Steed

GWM bakkie reviews showcased the rise in popularity of the Steed 5, along with delving into great depth about how highly affordable new GWM bakkie prices are. New or used, the GWM bakkie for sale deals were becoming the bargain of the century.

This was noted by the previous Kingsey Report conducted in 2015, where research found the Steed 5 as the most affordable bakkie in its segment to maintain. Considering the price-per-part in basket, GWM’s Steed 5 shone above the competition by being nearly half of the service and maintenance cost.

Exceptional for a bakkie that is relatively new to the South African market. So how has GWM been able to achieve this? To find, one needs to look abroad.

Growing market influence

Although GWM is still a growing brand within local shores, GWM is the leading bakkie retailer in China. Seen as the largest growing automotive market in the world, being a market leader takes some doing.

With this achievement, GWM was able to relate their success in China and introduce a model that is highly suitable to the local South African bakkie market. And the news gets even better.

What it means for you

South Africans can enjoy the peace of mind of GWM's comprehensive 3 year/100 000 km warranty and comes with 2-years AA roadside assistance included as standard with all Steed 5 Single Cab models.

Steed 5 Double Cab owners enjoy the same 2-years AA roadside assistance but with the added 5 year/100 000 km warranty. Exceptional value for money considering the affordable prices.

Be assured that the next new GWM bakkie for sale you consider will be backed by a brand that cares for their clients.

Are Double Cab Bakkies Safe in an Accident?

Are Double Cab Bakkies Safe in an Accident?

Size is always a natural determining factor when safety is concerned. Elephants are less likely to be trampled than sheep, and lions are more feared than wolves. However, does the size of your vehicle determine your safety in an accident?

The question as to whether double cab bakkies can actually be as safe as cars has been on the lips of consumers for a long time. For years double cab bakkies have been deemed as excellent workhorses but fail horribly as a safe alternative to transporting families.

Why were bakkies deemed unsafe?

It’s due to how bakkies were allowed to be designed. Many will find this surprising but bakkies never had to adhere to the safety standards and regulations set for cars. That was until the turn of the millennium.

In 1999, US federal regulations required that all light trucks including 4x2 double cab models meet the exact same standard safety requirements set by normal passenger cars. This includes that bakkies meet the side-impact structural ratings and have dual front airbags fitted.

What made them unsafe?

Apart from the lack of safety features, double cab bakkies shared a similar problem to that of SUVs. Due to their sheer size, pedestrians had a less likely chance of survival upon impact. A bakkies’s chassis were also stiffer than that of most other vehicles, and were less likely to reduce the overall impact.

So have bakkies become safe?

According to research conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the safety rates of bakkies increased across the board.

Although double cab bakkies aren’t completely on par with some of their passenger car counterparts, there’s surely been significant strides made in the safety development of the beloved transporter.

This is no different when it comes to the GWM Steed 5 2.2 Mpi 4x2 Safety model. Not only does it come standard with dual front airbags, it also features height adjustable inertia reel seatbelts, ABS and EBD.

Excellent value for money considering this capable model starts at a retail price of R204 900 (incl. VAT). And having the support of GWM’s comprehensive 5-years/100 000 km warranty and 2-years/24-hour roadside assistance, owners can drive safe in the knowledge that they are well looked after.

The Beauty of Single Cab GWM Steed Bakkies

The Beauty of Single Cab GWM Steed Bakkies

Unlike SUVs or double cabs, single cab bakkies are specialist tools. When built right, they’re tough as nails, rigid, and have only one purpose – the safe transportation of goods of all, shapes, sizes, weights.

While other bakkies are somewhere in between purpose built transportation machinery and people carriers, single cab bakkies are strictly the former, and that’s why we love them so much. But, tough and rugged machinery doesn’t have to forego comfort and looks altogether. In fact, it’s quite possible to blend the worlds of utility and luxury and roll them up into the most awesome example of single cab bakkies for sale. The single cab GWM bakkie is a prime example.

Take the Steed 5 for instance. This is a great example of a thoroughbred workhorse, but it manages to be completely tough while still catering for comfort and entertainment.

Just to prove our point about comfort and amazing features not detracting from toughness in any way, take a look at some of the features of the Steed 5:

Comfort

Everything from the spaciousness of the cabin – with its abundant legroom, headroom, and shoulder-room – to the bucket seats and padded armrest are aimed at giving the driver and passengers of the Steed 5 an exceptionally comfortable ride. Add to this, luxuries such as power steering, a USB/SD audio system and air-conditioning, and you’re sure of a very enjoyable driving experience.

Some models even go so far as to offer power electric windows, leather upholstery, remote audio controls, and electric mirror adjustment.

Safety

With single cabs being built to spend a lot of time on the road (or off it, for that matter), safety is paramount. Safety packages feature ABS with EBD and dual front airbags. Fog lamps and adjustable safety belts come standard on all Steed 5 models, as do immobilisers and central locking.

Looks

Just because a single cab bakkie is designed to be rugged doesn’t mean that it can’t have great looks as well. Granted, the Steed 5 is designed to be incredibly tough – featuring a double insulated load bin and ladder frame chassis – but its smooth design, steel wheels, and colour coding make it one handsome workhorse.

Single cab bakkies are purpose built for hard work. But GWM doesn’t equate hard work with discomfort. That’s why we’ve packed a host of fantastic features into a tough exterior – allowing every driver to work hard and play hard all at once.
