GWM Ranked Among '2014 Forbes Global 2000'

Earlier this month the authoritative annual Forbes Global 2000 list of the world's leading publically listed companies was released, with Chinese enterprises claiming the top three places, and no fewer than five top-ten positions. GWM again appears on the list, climbing 117 places in the process to 840th place.

According to the report, the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China topped the list for the second consecutive year, followed by the China Construction Bank and Agricultural Bank of China. No fewer than 25 Chinese enterprises (including mainland and Hong Kong enterprises) were added to increase the total number of Chinese enterprises to 207. Interestingly, South Africa's Naspers group appears in the 857th spot. Other South African companies, including Steinhoff International, Sanlam and FirstRand have also made the list.

Representing the Chinese automotive industry, six car makers, including GWM, SAIC, Dongfeng, BYD, Changan and GAGC appeared on the list. Among them, SAIC, Dongfeng and GWM reached the top 1000. Japan's Toyota was ranked 12th, ahead of other automakers.

The "Forbes Global 2000" list was first released in 2004 based on four indicators (sales, profit, assets and market value), weighted equally. GWM's progress follows further recent recognition from the world's leading brand consultancy agency, Interbrand, when it was included in its Top 50 Most Valuable Chinese Brands listing for a third time. In the Interbrand ranking GWM climbed 11 spots to 38th overall.

"GWM is on the move globally," says GWM SA COO, Warren Olsen. "It is a very ambitious brand and in the past two years have put many building blocks in place for future expansion and growth. These include new production facilities, research and development infrastructure and the recruitment of top personnel."

Once its high-tech new production Xushui production facility outside Baoding reaches full operation by 2015/2016, GWM aims to sell close to 1,5 million vehicles per year, nearly double its total production capacity in 2013.
