UB40 Feat. Ali Campbell Reunites Fans In Cape Town And Johannesburg
After weeks of anticipation for one of the most talked about concert tours in South Africa, the DStv presents UB40 SA Tour featuring Ali Campbell, culminated this past weekend . Two unforgettable performances took place by the reggae legends in Cape Town at Val de Vie Estate and at Joburg's Emmarentia Dam. Fans young and old reunited for unforgetable live performances by UB40, as they sang and danced along to their all-time favourite hits.
The beautiful Val De Vie Estate in Paarl kicked off with an energetic performance by pop reggae act, Trenton and Free Radical, followed by a highly entertaining show put on by local favourite, Hot Water. Special guests, Mango Groove, proved their unmatched talent as Claire Johnston performed her classic hits while the 6000 strong audience echoed their songs throughout the venue. To the crowd's surprise a very nervous young man, Jaco Swanepoel, took to the stage for what seemed to be to collect a prize for tweeting throughout the day. On meeting the MC, he took the microphone and requested his girlfriend please come to the stage as he wanted to ask her a question. She arrived on stage, the crowd waiting in anticipation, to be asked, 'Will you marry me?'. An unforgettable moment for a newly engaged couple.
After the sun had set finally the moment arrived, UB40 featuring Ali Campbell along with fellow founding members, Astro and Mickey Virtue took to the stage with the crowd in full cheer. The band performed their top songs ensuring fans relived the UB40 tunes they have always loved.
The mix of a beautiful venue, nostalgic music and great vibes ensured the celebrations in Paarl reached a new level as UB40 proved why they remain one of the top music acts in the world. Heart 104.9 FM brought the action straight to their listeners with a live broadcast from the venue, including an interview with the band, Trenton and Free Radical.
Over ten thousand fans flooded into Emmarentia Dam, now a favourite venue for outdoor concerts, to see UB40 live in Jo'burg. Kaya FM 95.9's Bob Mabena played host and got the audience pumped up between acts bringing an Afropolitan flavour to the concert. Michael Lowman successfully opened the stage with his catchy hit songs, followed by the always popular Afro-eclectic Freshlyground who captivated audience's from their first note with tracks like, 'Doo be doo', 'I'd Like' and 'Pot Belly'. Not to let Joburg down, incomparable Mango Groove, wowed the local audience before UB40 took to the stage. 'Red Red Wine', 'Kingston Town' and 'I Got You Babe', the definite favourites, had the fans on their feet throughout the memorable performance.
