Field Service Engineer

Main Purpose of Job:

Provide comprehensive vehicle product technical support to Dealerships, assisting in diagnosing and repairing complex vehicle issues. Analyse and prepare technical data for R&D purposes while resolving technical inquiries, conducting field service engineering support, and contributing to product development and reporting.

Minimum Qualification:

  • A bachelor's degree in engineering or a technical vehicle qualification.
  • Previous experience in technical support or customer service related to automotive technical support or similar industries (2-5 years).

Knowledge & Experience:

  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Wide-ranging knowledge of machinery and technological equipment.
  • Technical skills to install and repair equipment and software.

  • Naturally helpful and enjoys assisting people with technical issues.
  • Ability to explain technical details simply.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Critical thinking and ability to find solutions quickly and efficiently.

Technical Competencies:

  • Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing vehicle-related technical issues.
  • Experience with the TAR (Technical Assistance Request) System and remote diagnostics.
  • Knowledge of software testing, R&D, and technical bulletin writing.
  • Ability to install and configure computer hardware, software, networks, and applications.

Principal Areas of Accountability:

  • Provide brand/product and technical support to Dealerships facing technical challenges in diagnosing and repairing vehicle issues.
  • Address technical inquiries via the TAR System, remote diagnostics, and telephonic support to ensure prompt service and support.
  • Provide field service engineering technical support for product investigations or Dealerships, assisting in the prompt diagnosis and rectification of issues.
  • Travel to customer sites to perform site assessments as well as install, commission, maintain, and troubleshoot products.
  • Assist with R&D and software testing on new models and defective vehicles or components.
  • Carry out Dealership Technical Case Reporting and Validations, including Technical Bulletin writing or compilations.
  • Install and configure computer hardware, software, networks, and applications.
  • Diagnose equipment issues and perform repairs.
  • Evaluate a business's current facilities management operations and devise ways of improving them.
